Honeywell MF08CESWW 8,000 BTU 3-in-1 Functions
The MF08CESWW is a 3-in-1 unit with a long list of features. The 3-in-1 refers to the following features:
- air conditioning mode – cold air and dehumidifier
- dehumidifying-only mode
- fan-only mode
What this means is that you can use each feature separately.
For instance, just need a bit of air moment in the room? Easy, just pop the window and turn on the unit in fan-only mode. The fan can be set on three different speeds – low, medium and high.
Is your room a good temperature but a little too damp for your liking? No problem, use the MF08CESWW in dehumidify mode. We consider the stand-alone dehumidifier function a bonus feature. Some dehumidifier-only appliances, such as the LG PuriCare, can cost almost as much, if not more, than this unit.
Honeywell MF08CESWW 8,000 BTU Cooling Capacity
The MF08CESWW model is one of the smaller units offered by Honeywell. With 8000 BTUs of cooling capacity, this unit will cool a room up to 250 ft².
Also, this unit is rated at 147 CFM of airflow. If you’re not familiar with the term CFM, it stands for cubic feet per minute. This is a measure of the volume of air which can be moved every minute. The higher the number, the more quickly a unit will condition the air in your room. For comparison, a Haier HPB08XCM 8,000 BTU portable air conditioner produces 174 CFM or air flow.
Honeywell MF08CESWW 8,000 BTU Temperature Range
This model supports temperature settings in the range of 61 – 89°F. Therefore, you’ll be able to adjust it for the perfect temperature.
Honeywell MF08CESWW 8,000 BTU Dehumidifier
If you’re like us, you hate feeling like you’re sleeping in a puddle. When it’s hot and humid, there’s no spot on the bed which will stay comfortable for long. To solve this problem, the air conditioner removes moisture from the air in the room you’re cooling using the built-in dehumidifier. And the MF08CESWW does an outstanding job at this particular function.
The dehumidifier captures up to 61 pints of water every 24 hours. This is over 7 gallons of water. Therefore, you’ll feel cool and dry with this AC running.
Honeywell MF08CESWW 8,000 BTU Fan-only Mode
The Honeywell MF08CESWW 8,000 BTU portable air conditioner can be used as a fan on days where you only want to move the air around.
The fan on this air conditioner has three speeds – low, medium and high. You should note that the fan runs constantly in all modes. Even after the desired temperature has been reached.
Does the Honeywell MF08CESWW 8,000 BTU have an Auto-Evaporation feature?
The auto-evaporation feature is one of those things that we consider is a MUST HAVE for any portable air conditioner. This feature just simplifies your life so much that it’s hard to describe unless you’ve owned a model without it.
The water the dehumidifier extracts from the air must go somewhere. So all ACs come with a tank to collect it. When the unit gets full of water, the air conditioner stops running. For certain brands of air conditioners, you must empty the water before the air conditioner will start running again. Obviously, in high humidity areas, this can be a real chore.
With the auto-evaporation system on the Honeywell MF08CESWW, you may never have to drain the water from the air conditioner. The MF08CESWW evaporates the water and vents it to the outside world through the exhaust hose. Awesome, right?
There are situations where the auto-evaporation system may not be capable of keeping up with the dehumidifier. This can occur if you live in a very humid area or if the weather is exceptionally muggy for a period of time.
When the auto-evaporation system cannot keep up with the dehumidifier, the water tank could become full. When the tank is full, the unit will let you know using an indicator light on the LED display. At this point, you will need to manually drain the water.
Is the Honeywell MF08CESWW 8,000 BTU Portable Air Conditioner Noisy?
When it comes to noise, ACs are notoriously very loud. This is because of the motor running the compressor unit which does the hard work of cooling the air.
Noise is determined by the decibel level the unit puts out where the lower the number, the better. This unit is rated at a minimum of 54 decibels (dBA) which is one of the better models on the market.
At this level, you’ll be able to notice the AC running. But you won’t need to raise your voice to talk to your significant other (60 decibels) or listen to the TV.
By comparison, the Danby DPA080UB1GDB 8,000 BTU unit, outputs close to 59 dBA.
Does the Honeywell MF08CESWW 8,000 BTU Portable Air Conditioner use a Single-Hose design?
Yes, the Honeywell MF08CESWW 8,000 BTU portable air conditioner uses a single hoe design.
Can I install the Honeywell MF08CESWW 8,000 BTU Portable Air Conditioner without help?
Portable air conditioners are noted for their ease of installation. This is part of what makes them portable. The Honeywell MF08CESWW portable air conditioner is no different and possibly one of the easiest units to install.
The installation video provides a good overview on the installation process.
The window bracket will fit most standard windows either vertically or horizontally. The opening size of the windows must be from 19.9 inches on the low end and up to 47.25 inches on the high end.
We did not find any information as to whether there are accessories available to extend the window kit for larger openings. Therefore, if your window openings are wider than 47.25 inches or you want to use the air conditioner with sliding glass doors, you may want to review other models
Power Cord and Exhaust Hose
The hose is 5 inches in diameter and is flexible, allowing you to fit spaces from 12 inches (1ft) to 47 inches (3ft 11 inches). The exhaust hose connects to the window brackets and vents hot, moist air from the room to the outside. This means you’ll need to locate the AC no more than 47 inches from the window used for installation.
The power code which comes with this air conditioner can only reach up to 3 feet. This length is a bit disappointing. This is because the window you choose for installation must be located within 3 feet of an outlet.
Casters Wheels and Handles
The casters wheels will glide across all even surfaces in you home. And the handles will allow you to do this is a safe and secure way. These features increase the portability of the air conditioner and, therefore, allow you to move it around to the perfect locations within you home.
Here are some additional tips to keep in mind when installing your unit.
Important Note: The unit must be standing upright for at least 60 minutes before turning it on. This allows the refrigerant to settle inside the unit which is required for proper functioning. The unit could also be damaged if you turn it on too soon.
You want to create as airtight a fit as possible. This means inspecting the window kit to ensure there are no noticeable gaps. This will help prevent the warm, moist air from outside easily getting into the room and will help the unit to perform more efficiently.
One complaint about most portable air conditioners is that the vent hose and the window sealing configuration is not insulated. If you’re a little bit handy, you may want to pick up some insulation from a nearby building supply. You can use this to wrap around the hose and fill any window gaps which will improve the efficiency of your unit.
Is Honeywell MF08CESWW 8,000 BTU Portable Air Conditioner easy to use?
With the easy to use display panel and remote control, there is virtually no learning curve. Therefore, you will have no problem using and adjusting the Honeywell MF08CESWW for the perfect temperature.
How portable is the Honeywell MF08CESWW?
We love how compact this AC is. The dimensions are 19.5 inches wide by 14.2 inches deep and stands 24.4 inches high (a little over 2 feet). In addition, this model weighs in at just over 52 pounds.
Although we don’t recommend carrying this unit up and down stairs, the caster wheels do allow for smooth rolling the AC from room to room.
Also, you can uninstall the unit from one room and install it in another in minutes using the adjustable window brackets which come in the box. The brackets will fit windows which open either up and down or side to side.
Does the Honeywell MF08CESWW need routine maintenance?
Once installed, the unit requires some periodic maintenance to ensure proper operation.
With the auto-evaporation system, most, if not all of the water collected will vent through the exhaust hose leaving you with nothing to worry about.
But, in high humidity parts of the country, the water can collect faster than can be evaporated away. When this occurs, an indicator light will come on to notify you to empty the water.
Removing the water is extremely easy with this unit. Simply turn the unit off, undo the plug in the back and collect the water in a shallow pan and then put the plug back in.
One interesting thing to note is that once you turn the AC off, it’s recommended to wait about 3 minutes before turning the unit back on.
In addition to occasionally removing the water, Honeywell recommends cleaning the filter every 2 weeks. This is required to ensure your AC runs as efficiently as possible.
Again, this task very easy. Simply turn off the unit, remove the filter, clean it using warm water, let it dry and re-install.
What else should I consider when purchasing a portable air conditioner?
This biggest mistake people make is choosing an AC which is too small for the area of their room. The other mistake is buying a unit too large.
All air conditioners are rated to perform best for a particular room size. Therefore, you need to determine the area of the biggest room you want to cool.
To do this, measure the length and width of the room, in feet, and multiply these numbers to find the area value in square footage.
If you find the Honeywell MF08CESWW model is too small for your space, you should consider choosing one of the higher BTU units that Honeywell offers. Reviews for these larger units can be found by clicking on the links below:
- Honeywell MN10CES 10,000 BTU portable air conditioner
- Honeywell MN12CES 12,000 BTU portable air conditioner
- Honeywell MM14CCS 14,000 BTU portable air conditioner
Is the Honeywell MF08CESWW 8,000 BTU Portable Air Conditioner Environmentally-Friendly?
The MF08CESWW is manufactured with the R410A refrigerant. Therefore, if you’re concerned about the environment like we are, you will sleep comfortably with this knowledge.
In addition, the timer allows you to run the AC only when it’s needed instead of all day and night. By utilizing the timer feature, you’ll reduce electric consumption.
Lower energy requirements reduces the carbon emissions from the power plant. Therefore, you’re not only saving money but you’re also participating in helping the environment.
What type of warranty does the Honeywell MF08CESWW 8,000 BTU Portable Air Conditioner have?
This air conditioner comes with a non-transferable, 5-year limited warranty. You receive a 1-year warranty on all parts and labor and 5 years, on all parts related to the cooling and dehumidifying system – the evaporator, compressor, condenser and refrigerant tubing.
Honeywell really backs up their claim of reliability with this warranty as it’s one of the best we found for portable air conditioners. Most other brands only offer limited, 1-year warranties.
This Honeywell model is offered in either white or black colors. These models numbers differ with color but are, identical in every other way. The white model reviewed here is listed as MF08CESWW. And the black version is listed with model number – Honeywell MF08CESBB. Therefore, be careful which model number use choose when placing the order.
It’s very difficult to find any true drawbacks with the Honeywell MF08CESWW portable air conditioner. But the lengths of the power cord (3 feet) and exhaust hose (3 feet 11 inches) fall into this category. We consider these lengths a bit short for our liking, especially the power cord. Consequently, these may reduce your ability to find the perfect location for installation.
On the other hand, the MF08CESWW is an environment-friendly air conditioner with an impressive set of features.
These features include great cooling, dehumidifying and fan functions which run quietly. The auto-evaporation system and easy access filter design, reduce the amount of maintenance you’ll need to do. Therefore, saving you both time and worry to keep the AC running at peak performance.
In addition, the installation is about as easy as it gets. This is helped by the fact that everything you need is in the box. And the intuitive display and remote control reduce the learning curve to practically zero.
All in all, you’re getting all the quality, reliability and affordability expected from the Honeywell brand. And you’re getting all these great features backed up by one of the best warranties we’ve seen on portable air conditioners.
