Honeywell MN10CES 10,000 BTU 3-in-1 Functions
The MN10CES is a 3-in-1 unit with a long list of features. The 3-in-1 refers to the following features:
- air conditioning mode – cold air and dehumidifier
- dehumidifying-only mode
- fan-only mode
What this means is that you can use each feature separately.
For instance, just need a bit of air moment in the room? Easy, just pop the window and turn on the unit in fan-only mode. The fan can be set on three different speeds – low, medium and high.
Is your room a good temperature but a little too damp for your liking? Then you can use the MN10CES in dehumidify mode. We consider the stand-alone dehumidifier function a bonus feature for this price. Some dehumidifier-only appliances, such as the LG PuriCare, can cost almost as much than this air conditioner.
Honeywell MN10CES 10,000 BTU Cooling Capacity
The Honeywell MN10CES model is a small-to-mid-size unit. It produces to 10,000 BTUs of cooling capacity and is rated for room sizes up to 400 ft².
Also, this unit has a maximum airflow of 174 cubic feet per minute. The higher the airflow, the quicker the unit works to cool down the room. This is about average for many models this BTU rating. But don’t mistake average as a negative.
Honeywell MN10CES 10,000 BTU Temperature Range
This model supports temperature settings in the range of 61 – 89°F. The low end of this range – 61°F – is one of the lowest supported temperatures for the models we reviewed. Therefore, if you love it cold, then you’ll love the ability to set the temperature this low.
For comparison, the Danby DPA100E1BDB 10,000 BTU portable air conditioner only supports 64°F as the lowest setting.
Honeywell MN10CES 10,000 BTU Dehumidifier
When it’s hot and humid, trying to sleep at night is like sleeping on a wet blanket. To solve this problem, the air conditioner removes moisture from the air in the room which you’re cooling. And the MN10CES does an outstanding job at this particular function.
The dehumidifier captures up to 68 pints of water (8.5 gallons) every 24 hours. Therefore, you’ll be cool, dry and comfortable when this air conditioner is running.
Honeywell MN10CES 10,000 BTU Fan-only Mode
The Honeywell MN10CES 10,000 BTU portable air conditioner can be used as a fan on days where you only want to move the air around.
The fan on this air conditioner has three speeds – low, medium and high. You should note that the fan runs constantly in all modes. Even after the desired temperature has been reached.
Does the Honeywell MN10CES 10,000 BTU have an Auto-Evaporation feature?
Part of the conditioning function of an air conditioner is to dry out the air by extracting the excess moisture in the room. This water must go somewhere so all ACs provide a tank to collect it. When the tank becomes full, the air conditioner stops running. When this occurs, you must empty the water before the air conditioner will start running again. Obviously, in high humidity areas, this can be a real chore.
With the auto-evaporation system on the Honeywell MN10CES, you may never have to drain the water from the air conditioner. The MN10CES evaporates the water and vents it to the outside world through the exhaust hose. Consequently, you’ll spend less times performing maintenance and more time enjoying your cool, dry home.
There are situations where the auto-evaporation system may not be capable of keeping up with the dehumidifier. This can occur if you live in a very humid area or if the weather is exceptionally muggy for a period of time.
If the auto-evaporation system cannot keep up with the dehumidifier, the water tank will fill up. When this occurs, the unit will let you know using an indicator light on the LED display. And at this point, you will need to manually drain the water.
Is the Honeywell MN10CES 10,000 BTU Portable Air Conditioner Noisy?
When it comes to noise, ACs are notoriously very loud. This is because of the motor running the compressor unit which does the hard work of cooling the air.
Noise is determined by the decibel level the unit puts out where the lower the number, the better. This unit is rated within the range of 50 – 53 decibels (dBA). When it comes to noise output or lack thereof, this is one of the better models on the market.
At this level, you’ll be able to notice the AC running. But this level is not so significant that you’ll have trouble sleeping.
Does the Honeywell MN10CES 10,000 BTU Portable Air Conditioner use a Single-Hose design?
The Honeywell MN10CES 10,000 BTU portable air conditioner uses a single hose design.
Can I install the Honeywell MN10CES 10,000 BTU Portable Air Conditioner without help?
The installation of the Honeywell MN10CES portable air conditioner is about as easy it can get. But as with any air-conditioner, it’s important that the installation is done correctly. With a properly installed air conditioner, the temperature inside will be noticeably more comfortable than if not installed correctly.
Fortunately, this does not mean you need an expert to install this air conditioner.
The directions which come with the unit are easy to follow. But if you need additional help, you can view the following video.
The window bracket will fit most standard windows either vertically or horizontally. The width of the opening must be between 19.9 inches on the low end and up to 47.25 inches on the high end.
We did not find any information as to whether the window kit can be extended to fit larger openings. Therefore, you may want to consider other models for the following reasons. One, if your window openings are larger than 47.25 inches. Or, two, if you want to install this air conditioner in sliding glass doors.
Power Cord and Exhaust Hose
The exhaust hose is 5 inches in diameter. In addition, it’s flexible to allow you to fit spaces from 12 inches (1 ft) to 47 inches (3 ft 11 inches) from the unit to the window. Therefore, you’ll need to locate the AC no more than 47 inches from the window used for installation.
The power code is probably the most disappointing feature of this air conditioner. It only extends to 3 feet. Consequently, the outlet will need to be very close to the window.
Casters Wheels and Handles
The casters wheels will glide across all even surfaces in your home. And the handles will allow you to do this is a safe and secure way. These features increase the portability of the air conditioner and, therefore, allow you to move it around to the perfect locations within you home.
Here are some additional tips to keep in mind when installing your unit.
You want to create as airtight a fit as possible. To do this, you’ll need to inspect area around the window kit to ensure there are no gaps. By ensuring there are no gaps, you receive the following benefits. One, you will prevent hot air from outside from getting back into the room. Two, this will prevent insects and other critters from entering. Lastly, the air conditioner will perform more efficiently.
Important Note: The unit must be standing upright for at least 60 minutes before turning it on. This allows the refrigerant to settle inside the unit which is required for proper functioning.
Is Honeywell MN10CES 10,000 BTU Portable Air Conditioner easy to use?
As with all Honeywell portable air conditioners, this model is easy to use. The MN10CEs can be controlled either by the display panel or by the remote. There is virtually no learning curve. Therefore, you will have no problem using and adjusting the Honeywell MN10CES for the perfect temperature.
How portable is the Honeywell MN10CES?
The dimensions are 18.1 inches wide by 15.2 inches deep and stands 29.3 inches high and weighs in at just under 64 pounds. These specifications are standard for 10,000 BTU portable air conditioners. But we don’t recommend carrying this unit up and down stairs by yourself.
On the other hand, if you’re moving the unit to different rooms on the same floor then you should have no problem. The unit can be uninstalled and re-installed in a matter of minutes. And the caster wheels and handles allow you to easily roll the unit around.
Does the Honeywell MN10CES need routine maintenance?
Once installed, the MN10CES requires some periodic maintenance to ensure optimum operation.
Most, if not all of the water collected will vent through the exhaust hose with the Honeywell auto-evaporation system. This leaves you with nothing to worry about for most people.
But, in high humidity parts of the country, the water can collect faster than can be evaporated away. When this occurs, the water tank inside the unit fill up and an indicator light will come on to notify you. Therefore, you will have to periodically empty the water tank.
Removing the water is extremely easy with this unit. Simply turn the unit off, undo the plug in the back and collect the water in a shallow pan and then put the plug back in.
One thing to note is that once you turn the air conditioner off, it’s recommended to wait about 3 minutes before turning the unit back on.
In addition to occasionally emptying the water, Honeywell also recommends cleaning the filter every 2 weeks. This is required to ensure your air conditioner runs as efficiently and effective as possible.
Again, this task very easy. Simply turn off the unit, remove the filter, clean it using warm water, let it dry and re-install. Also, you should know, removing the filter is as easy as cleaning a lint catch in a dryer.
What else should I consider when purchasing a portable air conditioner?
The two biggest mistakes people make when choosing a portable air conditioner are either buying a unit which is too small or too large.
All air conditioners are rated to perform best for a particular room size. Therefore, you need to determine the area of the biggest room you want to cool.
You may find the Honeywell MN10CES model isn’t right size for your space. If so, you need to consider choosing a different Honeywell model. Our other Honeywell portable air conditioner reviews can be found by clicking on the links below:

This is one of the best warranties on the market that we’ve seen for portable air conditioners. Most other brands only offer limited, 1-year warranties. Therefore, Honeywell really backs up their claim of reliability.
This Honeywell model is offered in three different color options. The model numbers are slightly different for each color but are identical in every other way. Therefore, you’ll need to be careful when placing your order.
Here’s a table summarizing the colors and the model numbers
|MN10CES||Black and Silver|
It’s very difficult to find any true drawbacks with the Honeywell MN10CES portable air conditioner. But the lengths of the power cord (3 feet) and exhaust hose (3 feet 11 inches) fall into this category. We consider these lengths a bit short for our liking, especially the power cord. Consequently, these may reduce your ability to find the perfect location for installation.
On the other hand, the MN10CES is an environment-friendly air conditioner with an impressive set of features.
These features include great cooling, dehumidifying and fan functions which run quietly. The auto-evaporation system and easy access filter design, reduce the amount of maintenance you’ll need to do. Therefore, saving you both time and worry to keep the AC running at peak performance.
In addition, the installation is about as easy as it gets. This is helped by the fact that everything you need is in the box. And the intuitive display and remote control reduce the learning curve to practically zero.
All in all, you’re getting all the quality, reliability and affordability expected from the Honeywell brand. And you’re getting all these great features backed up by one of the best warranties we’ve seen on portable air conditioners.
