What this means is that you can use each feature separately.

For instance, if you’re just looking to move some air around, just crack the window and turn on the AC in fan-only mode.

Is your room at a comfortable temperature but a little too damp? Then you can use the MN14CCS in dehumidify mode. Top-line dehumidifiers can be costly. Therefore, we consider this feature of the Honeywell MN14CCS portable air conditioner a big positive.

The Honeywell MN14CCS model is a mid-to-large-size air conditioner. It produces to 14,000 BTUs of cooling capacity and is rated for room sizes up to 550 ft².

this was worth every penny! easy to install and works incredibly well.”

Also, this unit has a maximum airflow of 254 CFM (cubic feet per minute). The higher the airflow, the quicker the unit works to cool down the room. This is about average for many models this BTU rating. But don’t mistake average as a negative.

MN14CCS 14,000 BTU Temperature Range

This model supports temperature settings in the range of 61 – 89°F. The low end of this range – 61°F – is one of the lowest supported temperatures for the models we reviewed. So, if you love it cold, then this feature is right up your alley.

MN14CCS 14,000 BTU Dehumidifier

When it’s hot and humid, trying to sleep can be a challenge at best. High humidity levels make you feel like you’re sleeping in a tent after it rains.

The dehumidifier function on the MN14CCS solves this problem since it’s capable of capturing up to 90 pints of water (11.25 gallons!) every 24 hours. Therefore, you will get the rest you deserve in a cool and dry room.

MN14CCS 14,000 BTU Fan-only Mode

The Honeywell MN14CCS 14,000 BTU portable air conditioner supports a fan-only function. You can use this feature on days when you only want to move the air around.

You can adjust the air flow with three different fan speeds – high, medium and low. But you should be aware that the fan runs constantly in all modes.  Even after the desired temperature is reached.

Does the Honeywell MN14CCS 14,000 BTU have an Auto-Evaporation feature?

Part of the conditioning process for an AC is to remove excess moisture from the room. This process dries the air providing a space you’ll want to hang out in. But, this water must go somewhere. Therefore, all portable air conditioners provide a tank to collect it.

When the tank becomes full, the air conditioner stops running. On certain models, when this occurs, you must empty the water before the air conditioner will start running again. Obviously, in high humidity areas, this can be a real chore.

How does the auto-evaporation feature work?

With the auto-evaporation system on the Honeywell MN14CCS, you may never have to drain the water. The MN14CCS evaporates the water and vents it outside through the exhaust hose. Consequently, you’ll spend less time performing maintenance and more time enjoying your cool, dry home.

There are certain situations when the auto-evaporation system may not be able to keep up with the dehumidifier. One is if you live in a very humid region. And, two, if the weather is exceptionally muggy for a period of time.

If you find that the auto-evaporation system does not keep up, the unit will let you know. It does this by turning on an indicator light on the LED display. And at this point, you will need to manually drain the water.

Is the Honeywell MN14CCS 14,000 BTU Portable Air Conditioner Noisy?

When it comes to noise, portable air conditioners are notoriously very loud. This is because of the compressor unit which does the hard work of cooling the air.

Noise levels are determined by the decibel level the unit puts out. The lower the number, the better. This unit is rated within the 50 – 54 decibels (dBA) range. This is one of the better models on the market.

For comparison, talking produces about 60 DBA. Therefore, at the 54 dBA level, you’ll be able to notice the air conditioner running but you shouldn’t have trouble having a conversation or sleeping.

Does the Honeywell MN14CCS 14,000 BTU Portable Air Conditioner use a Single-Hose design?

The Honeywell MN14CCS 14,000 BTU portable air conditioner uses a single hose design.

Can I install the Honeywell MN14CCS 14,000 BTU Portable Air Conditioner without help?

The installation of the Honeywell MN14CCS portable air conditioner is about as easy it can get. But, as with anything, it’s important that the installation is done correctly. When you properly install the AC, you’ll improve the efficiency of the unit. This saves you money and increases the ability of the AC to cool the room.

“My unit came today at 1:30pm. Hooked it up in about 15 minutes… it’s now 4pm and I found myself reaching for a blanket to cover up with on the couch.”

Fortunately, you don’t need to be an expert to install this air conditioner. The directions are easy to follow and you have the help of the following video if you need it.

Window Kit

The window bracket will fit most standard windows either horizontally or vertically.  The opening size of the windows must be with the range of 19.9 inches on the low end and up to 47.25 inches on the high end. It’s not clear from the documentation as to whether the window kit can be extended to fit larger openings.

Therefore, you may want to consider other models for the following reasons. One, if your window openings are larger than 47.25 inches. Or, two, if you want to install this air conditioner in sliding glass doors.

For window openings less than 19.9 inches, the kit can most likely be modified if you’re a little bit handy.

Power Cord and Exhaust Hose

The exhaust hose is 5 inches in diameter and is flexible, allowing you to fit spaces from 12 inches to 47 inches. Therefore, you’ll need to locate the AC no more than 47 inches from the window used for installation.

The power code which comes with this air conditioner is only to 3 feet long. This length is a bit disappointing since your window will need to be within reach of an outlet.

Casters Wheels and Handles

The casters wheels will easily roll across all even surfaces in your home. And the handles allow you to do move it in a safe and secure way.

These features increase the portability of the air conditioner and, therefore, allow you to move it around to the perfect locations within you home.

Installation Tips

Here are some additional tips to keep in mind when installing your unit.

Ensure the window installation is as air tight as possible. This means inspecting for gaps around the window. If there are gaps, try correcting the installation or using insulation or weather sealant to fill these spaces. This will help prevent the hot, humid air from outside getting back into the room. Therefore, the room will be more comfortable and the AC will run more efficiently.

If you’re handy, you may want to insulate around the vent hose. This will can also improve the efficiency of your unit.

Important Note: The unit must be standing upright for at least 60 minutes before turning it on. This allows the refrigerant to settle inside the unit which is required for proper functioning.

Is Honeywell MN14CCS 14,000 BTU Portable Air Conditioner easy to use?

mm14ccs-14000-btu-portable-air-conditioner-black-silver-top-viewAll Honeywell portable air conditioners are easy to use. The MN14CCS can be controlled either by the display panel or by the remote.

There is almost no learning curve. Therefore, you’ll be finding the perfect temperature setting in no time.

How portable is the Honeywell MN14CCS?

The dimensions of this air conditioner are 19.92 inches wide by 15.79 inches deep and stands 34.02 inches high.  Since this model weighs in at just over 73.85 pounds, we don’t recommend carrying this unit up and down stairs.

But the unit can be moved from room to room easily. This is helped by the caster wheels which glide across the floor, the handles as well as the easy installation which can be completed in minutes.

Does the Honeywell MN14CCS need routine maintenance?

Once installed, the MN14CCS requires some periodic maintenance to ensure optimum operation.

If the unit cannot auto-evaporate all the water it collects through the exhaust hose, water will collect in the tank. This can occur in high humidity parts of the country.

For most people, this will not be an issue. But if it does occur, the tank inside will unit fill up. When the tank is full, an indicator light on the display panel will notify you.

Even though removing the water is extremely easy, it still requires some simple maintenance.

In addition to occasionally emptying the water, Honeywell also recommends cleaning the filter every couple of weeks. We highly recommend you follow this advice.  Taking this action ensures your air conditioner will run as efficiently and effectively as possible.

Cleaning the Filter

This task very easy since removing the filter is as easy as cleaning a lint catch in a dryer. Simply turn off the unit, remove the filter, clean it using warm water, let it dry and re-install. Therefore, this is about as simple as you’ll find.

What else should I consider when purchasing a portable air conditioner?

When choosing a portable air conditioner there are two mistakes people make. One is buying an air conditioner which is too large. The other is settling on an AC which is too small.

All portable air conditioners are rated to perform optimally for a particular room size. Therefore, find the size of the biggest room you plan to cool before purchasing a unit.

If you find the Honeywell MN14CCS model is rated too large or too small for your space, you should consider choosing one of other Honeywell models. You can find our other Honeywell portable air conditioner reviews by clicking on the links below:

Color Options

This Honeywell model is offered in two different color options – the sleek looking black and silver as well as the all black model. The different colors are represented by different model numbers but are identical in every other way. Therefore, just be careful when placing your order.

Here’s a table summarizing the colors and the model numbers

It’s very difficult to find any true drawbacks with the Honeywell MN14CCS portable air conditioner. But the lengths of the power cord (3 feet) and exhaust hose (3 feet 11 inches) fall into this category. These lengths a bit short for our liking, especially the power cord. Consequently, these may limit the locations where you can install this unit.

On the other hand, the MN14CCS is an environment-friendly air conditioner with an impressive set of features. These include great cooling, dehumidifying and fan functions which run quietly.

The auto-evaporation system and easy access filter design, reduce the amount of maintenance you’ll need to do. This will save you both time and worry and keep the unit running at peak performance.

In addition, the installation is about as easy as it gets. This is helped by the fact that everything you need is in the box. And the intuitive display and remote control reduce the learning curve to practically zero.

All in all, you’re getting all the quality, reliability and affordability expected from the Honeywell brand. And you’re getting all these great features backed up by one of the best warranties we’ve seen on portable air conditioners.
